Biography

Prof. Duong Q. Trung (IEEE Fellow) is a Chair Professor of Telecommunications at Queen’s University Belfast, U.K., and a Research Chair of the Royal Academy of Engineering, U.K. His current research interests include optimization, signal processing, and machine learning in wireless communications. He has published over 400 books/book chapters/journal articles/conference papers with 14,000+ citations and h-index 64. He has served as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, IEEE Communications Letters, and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. He received the Best Paper Award at the IEEE VTC-Spring in 2013, IEEE ICC in 2014, IEEE GLOBECOM in 2016, IEEE DSP in 2017, and IEEE GLOBECOM 2019. He received the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship (2015-2020) and the prestigious Newton Prize 2017. He is a Fellow of IEEE.

Biography

Dr. Ray Nguyen received his BS from the University of Texas at Austin in 2006, and his MS and PhD from Stanford University in 2008 and 2011, respectively. His dissertation focused on high-speed parametric pipeline ADCs and converter compensation techniques. He joined Clariphy Communications in 2012, later acquired by Inphi in 2016, and subsequently by Marvell Semiconductor in 2020. In the past decade, Dr. Nguyen has built and led various high-speed serdes and optical projects with state-of-the-art performance from inception to production. His research interests include high-speed analog front-ends, time-interleaved data converters, digital signal processing, converter calibration algorithms, and machine learning techniques. He authored over a dozen US patents and publications and is currently a Director of Analog Mixed-Signal & Circuits at Marvell Semiconductor.

Frugal innovation for rural electrification

Biography

Prof. Pascal Maussion, IEEE Senior Member, IES, and IAS Member, received his MSc and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Université de Toulouse, Institut National Polytechnique, France, in 1986 and 1990, respectively. He is currently a full Professor at Université de Toulouse-Toulouse INP and a researcher with CNRS research Laboratory: LAPLACE, LAboratory for PLAsma and Conversion of Energy in CODIASE (Control and Diagnostic of Electrical Systems) group.

His research activities deal with the design of experiments as an optimization and modeling tool in control and diagnosis. He works on the diagnosis and lifespan modeling of electrical systems such as drives and lighting. According to the frugal innovation principles, he also works on the design and the control of renewable energy systems for remote areas and on their life cycle assessment.

He is currently Toulouse INP Vice President for International Affairs.

Biography

Dr. Rae-Young Kim received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea, in 1997 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, VA, USA, in 2009, all in electrical engineering.
From 1999 to 2004, he was a Senior Researcher at the Hyosung Heavy Industry R&D Center, in Seoul, Korea. In 2009, he was an Engineering Researcher at National Semiconductor Corporation, Santa Clara, CA, USA, involved in a smart home energy management system. In 2016, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Center for Power Electronics Systems (CPES), Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and State University, Blacksburg. Since 2010, he has been with Hanyang University, where he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering. His research interests include the design of high-power density converters, optimizing WBG power devices, and distributing controls in the applications of renewable energy or micro and smart grid. Dr. Kim was a recipient of the 2007 First Prize Paper Award from the IEEE IAS and the Best Paper Award from IEEE ACEPT 2018.

Biography

Prof. Susumu Hara (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in engineering from Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1992, 1994, and 1996, respectively. From 1995 to 2000, he was a Research Fellow with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. From 1996 to 2000, he was a Visiting Researcher with the Faculty of Science and Technology, Keio University. From 1998 to 1999, he was a Visiting Scholar with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of California at Berkeley, Berkeley, CA, USA. In 2000, he joined the Faculty of the Toyota Technological Institute, Nagoya, Japan. In 2008, he joined the Faculty of Nagoya University, Nagoya, where he is currently a Professor with the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering. His current research interests include motion and vibration control of mechanical structures, nonstationary control methods, control problems of man-machine systems, and aerospace equipment.
